Community Care Fund
United Way issues grants to a portfolio of local human service programs through its Community Care Fund. These programs are assessed annually for effectiveness and efficiency by local volunteer panels. United Way also leads and participates in multi-partner initiatives that create lasting solutions. One initiative is United Way's CA$H Coalition. CA$H, which stands for Creating Assets, Savings and Hope, leads the annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program to help taxpayers receive the credits and refunds they are entitled to under law and provide financial stability tools. Another example is the United Way 2-1-1 Northeast Region telephone and information referral service, run in partnership with Family and Children's Service of the Capital Region. Dialing 2-1-1 connects callers with the help they need to solve non-emergency health, crisis and human services issues.
