Monitors new building conditions and construction and oversees the maintenance of older multi-family structures. Enforces the state and local building codes and housing standards and ordinances. Reviews applications for permits of new buildings, repairs, alterations, signs, and rooming houses. Accepts complaints from tenants about conditions the landlord fails to resolve.
Responsible for responding to complaints in which dogs are: unlicensed, off a leash, treated poorly, biting, and/or fighting. Assists patrol units when they encounter possible rabid animals.
Registers voters by mail and in person, counts votes from absentee ballots and voting machines, and operates all polling places in the county, including the inspection of machines and the hiring of inspectors.
Educates, advises, and provides assistance to local and county government and county property owners in the area of property assessment.

Maintains all village roads including paving & repair, snow removal, street sweeping, and signage. Responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of the pipes, drains, and manholes that constitute the sewage collection system which transports liquid waste to treatment facilities.
Prepares and collects property taxes for residents of the Village of Altamont from June 1st through July 1st. After July 1st all paperwork goes to the Albany County Treasurer’s Office.
