Benefits Advisement

SAIL provides assistance to individuals with disabilities, family members, and other interested parties concerning SSI, SSDI, Survivor’s Benefits, DAC Benefits, NYS Disability, Worker’s Compensation, VA Benefits, and Public Assistance. Benefits advisement includes counseling and training concerning work incentive programs and legislation (Medicaid Buy-In Program, 1619B Provision, IRWEs, etc.) that allows individuals with disabilities to work.

Emergency Assistance Advocacy

Provides assistance to individuals facing eviction or utilities shut-off and may include negotiations with landlords or utility companies, budget planning and direct financial support. Coordinates free legal consultation through the Capital District Women’s Bar Association and is offered on a regular basis.

Provides funds to help with utility disconnect notices and with eviction/foreclosure prevention.

Family Development Program

Provides supports and raising awareness for community families through one-on-one advocacy, and support, goal setting, budget development and individual attention as well as larger community presentations, increased access to services, and referrals to appropriate community resources.

Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP)

Provides assistance to individuals and families facing eviction. Intervention between landlord and tenant and information about both parties’ rights and responsibilities is offered.

Civil Legal Services

Provides free legal counseling and representation for low-income individuals who need assistance in civil cases including government benefits, senior legal services, federal tax issue, unemployment insurance, disability, housing landlord/tenant, family law matters, and consumers issues.
